While I was distracted by family business in Seattle (where a hopeful trip to the waterfront park turned up nothing), John found a T-shirt while walking our dog in Berkeley. Score: Shirt #5.
Here's what John had to say:
Shadow and I have had a quiet day - long walk with him and then finished watching The Linguists on Babelgum and then laundry and then I walked downtown and back.
I am writing to let you know that I found a t-shirt for you. I don't have a picture of the site but it was on Milvia just a house or two north of Rose about midway between the Poets' Garden and where Milvia crosses Codornices Creek - kind of a romantic historic locale, in Berkeley terms. The shirt itself is small or medium size, about the same faded gray-green as shirt #3 on your blog, and has a block-letter logo that says "SPLIT" three times and "live since 1988" once - could be a club. It has a few small grease spots (appear to be from food) and it smells perfumey like deodorant but otherwise seems to be pretty clean. However, I would be glad to wash it if you want.
I'm back in Berkeley now and raring to go on some T-shirt history research. I'm also going to start cutting the shirts to produce knittable lengths of fabric. Suggestions for a project, anyone?
