It's time to turn this small stack of T-shirts into, well, something!
First, I cut off the hem and the yoke of the shirts:
This leaves a tube that can then be cut into a long, continuous strip about 3/4" wide. There are many ways to do this, but I'm low-tech so I'll just cut a spiral while watching Flight of the Conchords.
I still don't know what I want to knit. It would be ironic to make a T-shirt out of T-shirt strips, I suppose. Perhaps too self-conscious, though--a bit precious. I don't have any sense of how many T-shirts will show up in the course of this arbitrary year (Earth Day 2009 to Earth Day 2010), so it's hard to figure out how much material I will have to work with.
