Sometimes I think that we eat more processed food on Thanksgiving than on any other day--hello, Party Mix, with your blend of four different cereals plus pretzels (the peanuts and butter are the only "pure" ingredients in this addictive thing)! Hello, Green Bean Casserole, with your irresistable French fried onions and gelatinous Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup!
But part of our meal is home grown--mashed potatoes from spuds that were dug up 20 minutes before being boiled--and all of it is home cooked, for better or worse. The turkey didn't cook in time (I have know idea WHAT was up with it--will have to check the oven's temperature control), but we tucked into the fixings and anticipate the turkey in tonight's dinner. Isn't John's apple pie glorious?
I'm enjoying my day after Thanksgiving (aside from noticing that a little mouse has found its way into our kitchen....). We drove out to Point Reyes Station for the love of the drive through the best of California landscape. We saw coyotes, buzzards, turkeys, hawks, and deer--and now we are home, where I am knitting and making plans for next year's garden.... Those potatoes were good!!!
